Dresses for Spring/Summer tried & tested
Dresses; typically associated with a ‘girly’ girl, princesses and femininity. I’ve never been any of the above things, although my family like to wind me up about having many Princess tendencies.....I fully disagree, of course. I’m the exact opposite of the above. The worlds biggest Tomboy? That’s me. But it doesn’t mean that I don’t like dresses, it means that I’ll wear them in a totally different way, and the way that a dress makes me feel will be totally different to the way a more girly girl will feel when she puts one on.
I love a dress. I absolutely love a dress with converse, trainers of any description, and if I’ve got an occasion to go to, a heel! I know, shocking.
I’ve been lucky enough to be taken away on a press trip to Cyprus so I thought there was no better setting for a Spring/Summer dress edit, and also, to try and test them and report back.
I’ve got a few in the edit that aren’t high street. And whilst they might not be the most purse-friendly, sometimes it’s great to think about brands outside of the usual, and in turn, means that you and your mate won’t be caught in the same go-to dress this Summer. I’m all up for twinning with my mates from time to time, but it’s also nice to be introduced to new brands that are doing amazing things too.
This is from the incredible brand Rouje, founded by Jeanne Demas, who is the ultimate French cool girl. She gets it. She creates things that she wants to wear, and it works. This dress is beautiful. I love everything about it, The slightly puffed shoulders, the asymmetric buttons down the front and the sweeping split front. I love that its green, and it works well with a flat slide sandal or a trainer.

I didn’t expect to love this. And if I’m being honest I’m still getting to grips with the frilly arm situation. I love it all the same and it pushes my boundaries which can only be a good thing. Ghost make some of the most beautiful dresses I have ever seen, from sultry slip dresses to more holiday appropriate, they really do have the perfect dress for every occasion. It is so comfortable and easy to wear, especially when it’s super warm, and those cold shoulder details mean you can get your tan on.

Where do I begin to talk to you about my run-deep love for this brand. I first learned of Reformation when I saw a post about it heading to London a couple of years ago for a pop-up. I remember because I needed a killer dress for one of my first dates with James (clearly it worked). They had the absolute perfect option and I have never been happier with a dress purchase. This beautiful linen mini dress is from their new collection and I had it delivered to my Miami hotel when I was there on holiday a few weeks back, as it’s a US based company so shipping would be so much quicker within the US, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. This is my third Reformation dress and I’m so converted. I feel like they really get the Tomboy does dresses vibe here.

This little linen number is the perfect high street option. I love the crossover thick straps, and the way it’s more fitted at the top. The buttons are a great details and I like that I can open a couple up to bare a little bit more leg if I want to, which I always want to….This is your purse friendly, well fitting, go everywhere on holiday or UK Sumer option and I’m so glad I found this one. We know how same-y the high street can be, you’ll be hard pushed to find a great deal of variation when it comes to dresses so I like this one because as simple as it is, I’ve not seen any as lovely as this one knocking about.
Thank you so much for reading! And I'll see you back here on Monday for something new. x
