Dressing & feelings

I wanted to put together a selection of some of my favorite looks that I’ve been wearing on repeat recently. From daytime to evening looks, I hope I’ve got you covered here.

It’s so true what they say about how dressing can absolutely change how you’re feeling and affect your mood, in a positive way.

I noticed this from such an early age. The first time I can remember this was at my 13th Birthday party. The preparation for what I would wear was nothing short of a military operation, inclusive of a hairdressing appointment to braid my hair into teeny tiny cornrows in a half up-half down style circa Lizzy Maguire….

My mum has always had the biggest influence on my style, even from such an early age. She would always make sure me and my brother were in the coolest clothes, and always bought in America on family holidays and I always remember my friends being a little bit envious of my fancy clothes!

I know you’re dying to know what I wore to my 13th birthday party. I tried to find you a photo but I think one of my friends has it. It shall surface at some point. I’ll explain it to you instead.

First up, cerise pink pedal pushers (a ¾ cropped version of a jegging with splits in the hem), a matching sleeveless dark blue denim tunic with cerise pink exposed stitching and a high neck consealed zip- think Bewitched! To finish off this award winning 13th birthday party look, I wore some real leather cerise pink snakeprint mules and my best friend knew what my shoes were like, so she bought me a matching cerise pink snakeprint clutch bag to match as my birthday present. I looked like the perfect addition to any girl band circa 1995.

I remember feeling on top of the world and so excited to put this look together. All my own doing by the way.

Getting dressed still affects me this way now, it can really honestly lift my mood if I’m having an off day or I can’t draw inspiration for work. I have some go-to feel good pieces like my favorite jeans or if it’s to get ready for a night out and I really cannot be bothered, then it’ll be a great heel or over knee boots with a skirt. There’s nothing like a leg out to lift your mood!

I suppose this can be useful in any capacity; to ease nerves at a job interview (if you dress the part you feel the part!) or simply getting dressed on a Sunday if you’re feeling restless sat there in your dressing gown, of which I’m very guilty.
