Updating for Summer: Keeping fashion sustainable

What an absolutely beautiful long weekend this is. I hope you’re having a wonderful time. The weather literally could not be any better and I get to see friends, do park picnics and laze around in the sun with not a worry.

As it’s started to feel a little warmer, finally I got cracking on sorting out my Summer/holiday wardrobe. I’m off to Ibiza on Wednesday and Italy soon after I get back, so I really needed to get sorted. By get sorted I mean empty those flipping air tight suction bags that contain my entire Summer wardrobe from last year. That’s how I came to realise that I needed a pair of perfect smarter, and preferably linen shorts.

I found exactly what I was looking for. They’re by Albus Lumen via Matches- trusty Matches; forever my favourite. The cut and fit of them are better than I could have asked for. I adore a blousey, short-short and these are just that. They’re an easy piece for daytime with a tank or t-shirt and work just as well for an evening out.

They are at the top of my packing list for Ibiza and I honestly can’t wait to wear them, or this entire outfit to be honest. The best way to work out what you might be missing, I’ve found, is to lay it all out and visualise, or try on everything you love if your a more practical person, to see what works with what. This is also the best way to make sure you aren’t spending your hard earned cash unnecessarily. Fashion for different seasons can be so throw away as we consume so much online that is difficult to know what you want Vs. what you need. Our culture is so disposable, and it has such a large impact on our environment. I’ve decided to make an even more informed choice about what I need, and how to make changes so that I can help in sustaining the environment. Plastic in the ocean ain’t cool.

I've been doing some research into ways that I can help improve my own fashion-waste footprint. As long as we all become a little bit more mindful, for example; re-work and re-use items through tailoring or customisation, and dispose of unwanted pieces ethically (i.e. at a recycling plant!) or give to a charity shop so you know the pieces you don't want have got another life after you're finished with them. These small changes will help to keep our oceans safe, and dolphins out of plastic bags! This website gives us the low down on how to recycle fashion, properly: Recycle your clothes!

You can shop my look here (and maybe recycle some of your old things once you've had a clear out!):
